North Dorset and Combe Down decided to play their league match on Saturday despite Storm
Dennis`s best efforts with huge swirling wind and torrential rain . N. Dorset played with the wind
in the first half and started with several good periods of pressure in the opposition`s 22 but were
unable to convert this into points. Combe Down rallied and put pressure on the home side who
defended well but failed to use the wind to get out of their own half, leading Combe Down
to score a converted try and go into the break 7 nil up. The second half opened with wave after
wave of Combe Down attacking the N. Dorset line but they were held out by desperate home
defence. In the final 10 minutes N. Dorset got a second wind and broke away to pressurise the
opposition`s line but to no avail until on he stroke of full time Mindaz went over for a try in the
corner. The conversion by Sam Jones was blown off course in the final few metres and the Ref
blew what everyone assumed to be the final whistle. But - no - he adjudged that Combe Down
had charged the kicker early and gave him a second chance, which he gleefully slotted. Final
Score a 7 all draw. Both sets of players were covered in mud and exhausted but were given
a standing ovation by the surprisingly large crowd of spectators, given the awful conditions.
