Badgers go on the hunt for sauerkraut and wieners in Trowbridge.
The Badgers headed to Trowbridge foaming at the mouth with grit and determination have had their previous game cancelled at the last minute. The Badgers started the game up the hill with great gusto and it wasn’t long before returning veteran Dave “Sticky” Stickland powered over only for the ref to deem it held up as he could not see the ball clearly grounded by the mountain of opposition players that it took to stop him.
From the resulting goal line drop out The Badgers returned, ball in hand with great intensity, with the ball travelling along the line to Tom Ashfield (playing his first game at outside centre) who crashed over for the games first “official” try.
This woke Trowbridge up and they put a lot of pressure on the badger’s defensive line until they were rightly rewarded with a try under the posts.
This now had the badgers riled, Que The onslaught! The Badgers scrum was dominant, and the badger's ball carriers were now gaining meters to open up try’s for Dave Allen, Ben Stokes and Owen Tiltman. Another barraging run from ND newcomer Tom Spinney resulted in a yellow card as the referee thought he was being too rough with the opposition.
Half time.
The second half continued much like the end of the First, the badgers dominating set-piece and string ball carry’s making lots of meters, from the likes of Will Finlay, Gav Weeks, Dan Till and Mitch Pearce to name just a few.
Fresh back from his rest on the touchline (yellow card) Tom Spinney rectified his earlier mistake with a darting run through the heart of the defence leaving defenders in his wake.
Credit must go to Trowbridge for keeping fighting until the end and for defending their line and keeping the Badgers out for the remainder of the game.
The Badgers team spirit, resilience and hard work cannot go without being mentioned and the young Debutants Jack Lennane (Badger of the Match) and Matt Piper shows what the future holds and what the club is working towards.
