North Dorset RFC

48 - 10

(HT 0-0)

Wimborne RFC

The game between our two clubs was a replica of the fixture which started it all for North Dorset 70 years ago in September 1951 and this match started with both sides seeking weaknesses in the opposition until North Dorset won a scrum penalty 10 metres out which was taken quickly, and Robbie Sampson opened the scorebook with a well-taken try, converted by Sam Jones (7-0).  Wimborne reacted quickly and their winger scored in the corner - not converted (7-5).  They took heart from this and pressed hard for the next 10 minutes but were held out by a somewhat desperate defence.  Dorset got back into the game with a good lineout resulting in Adam Trevis going in under the posts, duly converted by Sam Jones (14-5). Dorset was now on top of their game with the pack pushing Wimborne at every scrum and earning a pushover try with Joe Atkins touching down (21-5) - halftime score.

The game resumed with Dorset still dominating and Robbie Sampson soon scored his second try of the afternoon - unconverted (26-5), quickly followed by his third, again unconverted (31-5) At this point the Wimborne wing intercepted a pass on his own 22 and scored a very good individual try - unconverted (31-10).  This sparked North Dorset into action again and constant pressure was rewarded with Robbie Sampson getting his fourth try, converted by Sam Jones (38-10).  Now North was on a roll, Wimborne lost heart allowing Henry Lunn to run in an unconverted try (43-10), closely followed by James Trevis scoring from a pass by Brother Adam, which went unconverted and full-time score was 48-10.  Once again, a large crowd enjoyed a good entertaining Rugby Match and 70 years on North Dorset won again but with a slightly better score than in 1951 which was 6 - 3.
