Weymouth & Portland travelled to Slaughtergate on Saturday for the return match North Dorset having narrowly won the away game.
North Dorset dominated possession for the first 15 minutes, showcasing a variety of attacking moves but failed to score due to Weymouth`s dogged defence and their own errors until Jamie Bettesworth forced his way over the line for a try duly converted by Sam Jones 7-0. A period of sustained Dorset pressure followed, and a rolling maul took them over the line for a try claimed by Dave Stickland, unconverted 12-0. After a good passage of play and the ball passing through several pairs of hands, Jake Cannings scored in the corner, again unconverted,17-0. Sam Trevis broke through the Weymouth defence to score under the posts to round off the first half, converted by Sam Jones 24-0. Halftime score.
Both teams made substitutions during the break and the second half began in a stop/start fashion. North Dorset soon adjusted and Tom Rose scored an unconverted try 29-0, followed by Adam Trevis, not to be outdone by his Brother, scoring and Sam Jones converting 36-0. Debutante Ben Wynne added to the scoreline by breaking out of defence and running the length of the pitch for his try, which was converted by Sam Jones 43-0. At this point, North Dorset eased off and were surprised by Weymouth from a quickly taken lineout in their half to score in the corner, unconverted 43-5. This spurred Dorset into action with Tom Spinney brushing aside several Weymouth players to score under the posts that Sam Jones happily converted to bring the final score to 50-5.
