Swanage & Wareham RFC
North Dorset RFC

On Saturday 2nd April North Dorset travelled to play Swanage & Wareham in their last league match of the season.  Swanage dominated the 1st 5 minutes of the game with Dorset dithering until Sam Trevis cut a good line through the Swans defence to score a try which Robbie Sampson converted from 0  -  7.  We then had a bit of a `Trevis Bros show` with Adam scoring in the corner swiftly followed by Sam claiming his second. Robbie converted Adam`s but missed Sam`s 0  -  19, before breaking away to score and convert himself with the Bonus point try after 16 minutes. 0 - 26. After a great run on the left by Jake Cannings, speedster Gavin Weeks scored on the right-wing duly converted by Robbie Sampson 0  -  33. Jake Cannings was able to follow this with his own try scored after a great solo run, unconverted  0  -  38.  Following the restart, Adam Trevis cut through the middle of the Swanage defence to claim his second which went unconverted 0 - 43, but Robbie then intercepted a loose Swans pass in his own half and scored in the corner  0  -  48.  At this point Swanage upped their game and laid siege to the Dorset line for some period of time and were eventually rewarded with a penalty try. 7-48  Trys by Matt Piper and Sam Trevis (his third), both unconverted brought the halftime score to 7 - 58.

The 2nd half resumed at a slightly more sedate pace with injuries and changes to personnel. Jay Westcar made a great run to score a try converted by Robbie Sampson 7  -  65. followed by Joe Atkins barrelling his way over the line with several Swans players clinging on for the ride, converted by Jay Westcar 7 - 72. Dorset upped the pace and Rob (Moley)Morris dived over for an unconverted try 7 - 77. Super Sub Simon Drake added to the tally and the conversion from Jay Westcar brought the final score to 7 - 84.

This Match report may give the impression that Swanage & Wareham were not involved in the game but they ran, chased and tackled to the final whistle. The game was played in great spirit with 3 Dorset Subs playing for Swans due to injuries and was enjoyed by all, including a large band of supporters.

North Dorset's next match is the Dorset & Wilts Vase Semi-Final against Melksham on Saturday 16th April.
