Saturday 25th September
North Dorset v Bournemouth III
Saturday heralded the start of North Dorset`s Platinum (70th) Season together with the return to competitive Rugby and VP`s lunch for the 1st time in 18 months, so with an enthusiastic crowd watching, North started with a determined attitude. After a period of sustained pressure, including a series of good scrums, they forced a penalty from Bournemouth, which Sam Jones happily converted into points (3-0). North Dorset carried on in this vein laying siege to the Bournemouth line but were held up over the line several times until eventually Henry Barron was able to touch down and Sam Jones converted (10-0). This had the effect of waking Bournemouth up. They gradually built momentum with the dangerous back division, eventually scoring an excellent converted try under the posts (10-7).
From the resultant kick-off, Dorset attacked again and forced another penalty duly converted by Sam Jones (13-7). However, Bournemouth replied immediately with another reasonable backline effort to score their second converted try (13-14) which proved to be the halftime score.
The second half started with Bournemouth keeping up the pressure resulting in another try, this time unconverted (13-19). For the next 15 minutes, Bournemouth besieged the Dorset line but was kept at bay by a very dogged and determined defence. North Dorset finally broke out of their half. However, they were unable to add to the scoreline despite a considerable team effort. This was an excellent entertaining game with two relatively evenly matched teams, but the Bournemouth backline swung the balance. Final score North Dorset 13 Bournemouth 19
