It was a ‘Game of Groans’ in more ways than one when the U14’s took on Wimborne at home on Sunday. Both teams played brilliantly, with North Dorset coming close to a number of tries, but just missing out. First Aiders Jane Fredericks and Isabel McConnell were kept busy, with an unprecedented number of injuries.
However, despite some fantastic rucks from the home team, we found ourselves down 15-0 at halftime. Wimborne played their line exceptionally well and with incredibly fast players, certainly put the boys through their paces.
The second half was again relentless and Wimborne went on to score another 4 tries. All players demonstrated some amazing tackling skills, in particular George Minto, Charlie Smith and Josh Parkman. Hopes were briefly raised when, with a fantastic show of teamwork, Sid Moore managed to break through their defence and score a try.
Huge credit must go to the boys, as at no point did they get despondent or show signs of giving up. They put up a fantastic fight and although didn’t come away victorious on this occasion, should be very proud of the effort they put in.
