The U14’s played their first away match of the season at the weekend against Oakmeadians and played tenaciously until the final whistle.
Despite incredible displays of teamwork and some fantastic tackling by George Minto, Charlie Smith and Sam Barnes, the opposition was leading by 4 tries within the first 15 minutes.
At this point, the lads decided it was time to wake up and show what they were made of. No one was going to stop Josh Parkman when he had a fantastic run to score the first try from the halfway line. Within minutes, he demonstrated the same speed and drive to bring the half time score to 10 - 20.
North Dorset started the second half with strength and tenacity with Sam McConnell and Ben Mitchell making another 2 fantastic tries in quick succession. The tension was rising, as one more try would have equalised the score. Unfortunately, despite continuing to demonstrate perseverance and determination, Oakmeadians found our weak spots and tore through our defence to score a further 5 tries. A final, excellent try by Sid Moore, closed the gap, however, the hosting team had proved that on this occasion, they were the stronger side.
At no point did our boys become despondent or give up and for that, they should be very proud of themselves. We suffered injuries and we suffered defeat, but we will go out onto the pitch next weekend stronger and determined, having learnt from this match.
