North Dorset women vs Christchurch Women
North Dorset was a little low on players so had to call in some help from Swanage & Wareham RFC who were kind enough to lend a few players to help make this fixture happen. Big shout out to the newbie Kate Willets playing her 2nd ever game and was tackling and carrying hard, unfortunately, took a knock to her back so didn’t finish the game but played amazing.
The game started off and very quickly 5-0 Hannah Reynard out wide scoring after the ball going down the line and some gas to finish it off, Talking of gas 12-0 quickly after the restart with Catherine stone bridge stepping her opposite women to get under the posts and conversion successful by Amber. With the backs seeing a lot of the ball we quickly scored two more by new recruit Lia Gingell and a loanee Hannah Reynard x2 of the game so far. Some great back moves to create the space for both of these try’s to be scored under the post, only 1 successfully converted by amber. The forwards finally seeing the ball and with very strong carries from Kaitlyn & Katie Porter lead to a great team try dotted over the line by the bulldozer herself Louisa, the strength she had to bounce 2,3 and 4 players off her to get to the line. Now into the 2nd quarter, Christchurch had a bit of ball but after some pressure from the forwards in the rucks we got a turnover and skipper Amber Corbett found some space outside to wiz past the Christchurch winger and then wrong step the fullback to score under the post and then successfully convert too. Another forward getting on the score sheet again a loanee Kaitlyn taking the score to 41-0.
Carries by forwards lead to us charging up the pitch but finished off with some personal strength and determination for Kaitlyn to reach out and put the ball over the white line. Half time approaching, North Dorset quickly gutted in two more try’s from newbie Kate Collins and Lia getting her second of the day. Both came from some great back moves plus running lines with offloads from our backs Mel & Budge.
Half time 51-0
Quickly into the second half, the women pumped to keep scoring Catherine got her first hat trick of the season. After Vanessa doing lots of hard carries then more good offloads from Kaitlyn, taking the score to 63-0. Christchurch really started to grit their teeth and held on to the ball marching up the pitch with some help from poor discipline from North Dorset let to Christchurch scoring from a quick tap penalty right in the corner.
North needed a strong reply with that Mel Wilkinson (no relation to Jonny) dotted down in the corner followed by
great link-up play with Lia & Louisa, Offloading really well and strong running lead to North going 75-5 up with a successful Kate Collins conversion. So Catherine and Lia both on hattricks Hannah wanted hers so after some phase play with the forwards Hannah found a big hole in opposing defence and exploited it with her running straight through the middle and another successful Kate Collins conversion.
87-5, Lia went one better than the other two and bagged her 4th try of the day. Lots of really nice running around the outside and string running saw her claim her 4th. The last ND try was too Catherine, her 4th as well after some great off the ball work looping and running crazy lines lead to her taking the score to 92-5 another conversion by Kate Collins.
The game ended with Christchurch in high spirits them leading the urge to score again with forwards powering on and over the line!
