North Dorset Men v East Dorset Dockers

Dorset & Wiltshire Vase Final

On Saturday 23rd April the Dorset & Wilts Vase final was held at Blandford Rugby Club between North Dorset and East Dorset Dockers.  It all started with a bang as the kick off didn`t travel 10m and from the resultant scrum the ball shot out, North were slow and the Dockers centre grabbed the ball and ran through a sleepy North Dorset defence to score under the posts 0 - 7. This energised North Dorset and they kept Dockers in their own half for a period of time but failed to capitalise with points, until Dockers broke out and attacked North`s line but they also failed to score. North Dorset ended this impasse when from a powerful maul Robbie Sampson went on a jinking run and scored in the corner, unconverted 5-7.  Dockers replied with a series of attacks and breached the defence with a good move but the East Dorset’s 10 dropped the ball over the line leaving the halftime score at 5-7.

North came out for the 2nd half with a flourish and Adam Geal ran a determined line through Dockers defence to score in the corner, converted by Sam Jones 12-7. North Dorset were now on a roll and forced the East Dorset 10 to slap an offload away which resulted in a yellow card and East Dorset reduced to 14 for 10 minutes. After strong forward pressure Adam Trevis scored an unconverted try 17-7, followed by a good move with the ball passing between forwards and backs to see Adam scoring again, converted by Sam 24-7.  Soon after this Sam Jones was yellow carded leaving North Dorset down to 14 men for 10 minutes but despite this, they withstood several Dockers` attacks with good strong defence. North Dorset then launched several attacks of their own culminating with Adam Geal running another strong line through Dockers defence, whose tackles were to no avail, to score a great try, converted by Robbie Sampson, 31-7.  Dockers reacted by putting together a fine move but were held up over the line.  Dorset made a final attack of their own but were unable to add to the score line. The whistle blew on the final score of North Dorset 31 -East Dorset Dockers 7.

North Dorset`s Gritchie Brewing Company player of the match was Adam Geal .  This great win crowned an excellent season with North Dorset achieving

the League and Vase Double.
