Success in Salisbury
On Sunday 6 March, North Dorset U14s conquered Salisbury in an epic showdown away from home. The team were ready to go and 5 minutes in opened the score with a fantastic run and finish by number 7, Rares Nicoara. North Dorset’s spirit was high when fullback Sam Barnes scored the conversion in strong winds.
A few phases after, North Dorset’s number 3 Ben Mitchell got the team a second try, right between the posts. Sam Barnes didn’t fail to disappoint and got the team the extra 2. Number 14 George Minto, produced a prize saving tackle against a Salisbury attack. However, just before the curtains drew on the outstanding first-half performance, North Dorset’s inside centre Sid Moore got a yellow card after a late tackle.
However, the Dorset boys seemed unfazed by this and started the second half heads up and 14 points ahead. After a few 22 dropouts, the boys finally found their way back with a try from half-time substitute, outside centre Cody Stockley.
When Sid Moore came back on after the 7 minutes, he got his own back with 2 tries in 2 minutes, one being successfully converted by Sam Barnes.
Then as the home team restarted, a solo try from Captain Sam McConnell – which got him MOTM – right under the posts ensured the boys’ high hopes, especially after Sam Barnes scored his 5th conversion.
Finally, after his incredible performance, Sam Barnes scored the teams’ 7th try, after a top-quality run and pass from Sid Moore.
However, as the final play took place, Salisbury got one past North Dorset from a line-out 5 metres away from the Dorset boys’ try-line.
The boys from Slaughtergate showed outstanding teamwork, skill and amazing rugby to finish 45 – 5 at Salisbury.
