N. Dorset travelled to Wimborne, the League leaders and unbeaten this season, without several key players through injury and unavailability but were still a fairly strong side. Wimborne started at a frenetic pace and scored in the corner within minutes (5-0) eliciting a reaction from N. Dorset who after a sustained period of pressure were rewarded with a penalty which Rylie Lewis converted into points (5-3). Wimborne`s winger replied to this by rounding the North defence and scoring in the corner (10-3). Not to be outdone North rallied again by besieging the Wimborne line and Tom Hooper crossing the line (10-8). The game then flowed one end to the other until Wimborne were awarded a penalty (13-8) followed by a kick ahead fooling the N. Dorset defence with the bounce of the ball and scoring a converted try (20-8). They brought the match to half time by once again putting their winger into space to score in the corner (25-8).
N.Dorset began the 2nd half by mounting wave after wave of drives on the Wimborne line until they were finally rewarded with a penalty try (25-15) but Wimborne were quick to react with a converted try of their own (32-15). In the last 10 minutes of the game, against a now flagging North, who had chased and tackled throughout, Wimborne ran in 3 tries making the final score 49-15.
Wimborne demonstrated throughout why they are top of the league and fully deserved the win but N. Dorset were dogged and determined and never gave up. N. Dorset`s player of the match was try scorer Tom Hooper who was everywhere. The Tom Fool Trophy went to Robbie Sampson who took on the 4 biggest players on the pitch and came 2nd.
