In addition to the regular club charities that supports and raises awareness of the issues, many junior players have encountered in the past 12 months.

You may be aware of Ryan Scutt’s incredible progress in fighting a brain tumour during the last season. We are incredibly pleased to announce that earlier this week. We heard the fantastic news from Hayley, Ryans mum, that Ryan is in remission, and there is no trace of cancer in his body. She also said that he is currently visiting the gym, as he is determined to get back rugby ready for next season!!

Unfortunately, he isn’t the only one who has faced challenges over the year. We also have another young lad, Will Alexander, who’s a member of our U10 team. Will has faced a similar challenge over the last 12 months or so.

Will and his family would like to support The Brain Tumour Charity, a charity supporting families, research and awareness around brain tumours specifically. Wills family advises that the subject receives modest funding in the grand scheme of things due to the instances of brain tumours being less prevalent than other forms of cancer at this time. However, the club is to support The Brain Tumour Charity throughout the remainder of our 70th year, in honour of Will, Ryan and their families. They have shown remarkable fortitude throughout the last 12 months or so.

Will has a long way to go on his recovery journey. He needs to relearn to walk so that he can enjoy the sports and activities he so enjoyed before he was taken ill. So, we will support/challenge Will to walk 70m by the end of our 70th year. That’s the width of a full-size pitch. It doesn’t sound much. But, it gives you a perspective on where Will is at and how long it could take him to reach such a milestone.

We know there are others in the club with similar challenges and knowing that we probably do not know about others. Therefore, the club will always try and help its members and the local community where possible.
